Six Relaxing Bedroom Ideas

Jul 18, 2020 | Bedroom Environment

We spend a lot of time, money and effort into designing and decorating our homes, in particular living areas, but often neglect the central hub of relaxation – the bedroom.

Given we spend a third of our lives in bed, the bedroom should be a cleverly designed space that will help ensure you feel calm and comfortable, ready for a good night’s sleep.

Here are our six top tips

It’s all about the bed

Yes it is! It plays the star role in your bedroom and should elicit comfort and warmth. You won’t get much sleep if your bed is old, unsupportive and uninviting. Don’t be tempted to skimp on the cheapest mattress you can find, look for one that offers the right level of comfort and support so that you can sleep well night after night. Remember you sleep on it for around seven to eight hours a night, so it needs to be just right!

Bed down with bedding

Not only should your bed be inviting, but so should the bedding – you want it to bring cosiness and a touch of luxury to the scheme. Layer the bed with soft or silky sheets, sumptuous duvet cover fabrics and tempting textures for blankets or accent cushions for a bed that looks as good as it feels!

Let there be light

When creating the right ambience in the bedroom, think about the lighting. You don’t want anything too bright or harsh. Consider switching to dimmer switches for ceiling lights and cosy bedside lamps for reading in bed.

Colour me beautiful

When decorating your bedroom choose wall colours that set the tone and mood for the entire space. While colour has no effect on how well you sleep, it does affect how you feel about your bedroom space. A soothing colour scheme could be formed from soft shades of green, blue, grey, lavender and cream to ooze tranquillity and harmony.

Clear the clutter

Your bedroom isn’t a dumping ground for the rest of the house. It needs to be a sanctuary where you go to have relax and have a restful night’s sleep. If your bedroom is crammed with paperwork, extra clothes or laundry, tidy it or reorganise. There are many space saving options in bedroom furniture and in beds that can hide additional clutter!

Power of plants

Plants give a natural, soothing vibe to a room and are a current trend for the home. They work really well in the bedroom as they relax the senses and invigorate the mind plus are easy to look after. You can find out more about suitable bedroom plants.
